The golden stopwatch drops from the hypnotist's white-gloved hand. The timepiece dangles for a second before the caped mystic swings it like a pendulum in front of the subject's face. "You are getting very sleepy," the hypnotist says, as the audience eagerly watches the subject become a human marionette at the hands of the master. Will the subject crawl like a hedgehog or maybe cluck like a chicken?
Will a dark secret be revealed?

From soap operas to sensational live shows, hypnosis holds a special place in the American pop cultural lexicon. It's a mind-controlling agent in "The Manchurian Candidate" and the catalyst to ultimate lassitude in "Office Space." Hypnosis is the ultimate key to unlocking the human mind.
Or is it?

It's up to Los Angeles' late-night crowd to decide when Hollywood Hypnotist Kevin Stone attempts to cast his spell on club goers in a series of Saturday night shows at the Laugh Factory. Stone's midnight act takes more from Vegas than vaudeville; he leaves the gloves, cape and stopwatch back in hypnosis history. Instead, Stone saunters onstage clad in all black – the immemorial attire for a man of mystery -- and adeptly pulls the strings of his subjects in a show that brings the weird and wild out of them.

Well, mostly wild.

"No one will do anything they wouldn't normally do while hypnotized," he says. "But you never know what's going to happen."

The setup of his show may be familiar, but the outcome, Stone says, is totally unpredictable. A row of audience members faces the crowd and Stone embeds his suggestions into their minds. When their eyes close and heads drop, the ridiculous spectacle begins. Young professionals sleepily perform disco dances, a woman's hands float in the air (bound with invisible balloons, she believed) and another man frantically searches under his seat for something he misplaced.

"Do you know what happened to your butt?" Stone asks Darrell Johnson, the still-entranced, de-bottomed man.

"I don't know. It's just gone," Johnson replied slightly dejectedly.

Johnson, a 52-year-old Veteran's Hospital employee, became the star of the night as he fell into Stone's web of hypnosis. Tiptoeing with Stone through the audience and smooching a lady friend were not abnormal occurrences for the hypnotized man.

At the show's conclusion, Stone takes a more serious tone with his participants. He asks them to think of something that they want in their lives, and to let this thought seep into their unconscious. For Johnson, this question marked a moment of clarity.

"During that last moment I thought about how I have been clean of drugs and alcohol for a while, and I pledged to stay clean," Johnson said.

While Stone flaunts his Hollywood Hypnotist persona onstage, he says he wants to raise awareness for the beneficial effects of hypnotherapy offstage. "I started off doing sessions in celebrities' living rooms," Stone says. "Then it started taking off and turned into the stage show, but I know that hypnotism can work for everyone."

Stone runs a hypnotherapy clinic decorated with newspaper clippings and a case of vintage metronomes. Celebrity clients like Matt Damon and Denise Richards have sat in Stone's reclining chair. Here, clients have sought cessation from problems ranging from smoking (Damon), cussing (Richards) or a post-apocalyptic clutter wasteland of desk clutter (this writer).

"There's really two sides of hypnotism, what you see on stage and the change that happens in the clinic," he says. Although Stone redefines the visage of the mystic, but his brand of hypnotism still provokes the age-old question: What do you believe?

I just got back from a worldwind road trip to College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas where,in the afternoon I presented my "Ultimate Change" workshop to a full auditorium of students,faculty and members of the community. The goal of the workshop is to show how a powerful tool like hypnosis can be used to overcome challenges and obstacles in life to achieve lasting successful results. I showed them how to use the power of their mind to manifest their dreams into reality.

Then at 7pm, the entertainment side of hypnosis was demonstrated with my one of a kind ,Ultimate Comedy Stage Hypnosis Show! It was great to see that a majority of the people from the afternoon lecture returned to see the show and experience the entertainment side of hypnosis. It was a great show with awesome "Stars" and a fun time was had by all!

Today was a true Hollywood Day for yours truly, Hollywood Hypnotist Kevin Stone, and it was a ton of fun. The Number One Fm breakfast radio show in Australia,The Kyle and Jackie O Show is here broadcasting live from the World Famous Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills California, (the hotel that has been featured in the movie pretty woman and many others) they asked me to be the featured guest Hypnotist on their program during their three week stay. They are here broadcasting for the Grammy Awards as well as the Oscar's.Today was the first of the appearances and it started with arriving at the elegant, world famous hotel and being escorted up to a suite which had been turned into a radio broadcast station. As the morning DJ's were already recording, I took the opportunity to Hypnotize one of the stations on air personalities , named Geoff Field, and then the fun began! After having some fun with Geoff live on the air to Australia we hopped a taxi Hollywood Blvd. to record some "man on the street" hypnotic antics and I have to say that the taxi driver was extremely confused when I gave Geoff the suggestions I did to turn the driver into various other people and celebrities...it was hysterically funny! We then hopped on a Hollywood Star Tours Bus and Geoff continued to be a great hypnotic subject and contradicted everything the tour guide said which led to a very frustrated tour driver but a busload of tourists who were loving the banter. Stay tuned because I have more scheduled appearances with Geoff and if today was any indication of things to come then hold on, it's going to be a wild ride! I will also be posting some video of this wild ride!

Famous hypnotist, Hollywood Hypnotist Kevin Stone was performing a sold out show in a 5,000 seat auditorium one night. He began to speak in a soft and steady voice over the loud-speakers."Listen to the sound of my voice...", he kept repeating, "The sound of my voice... every word is a command... The sound of my voice..." Pretty soon, he had every single person in the audience completely hypnotized and mesmerized, each one hanging on his every word.

Kevin suddenly realizing that he drank to much water before the show and needed to.......... Well, you know, do number #1.

He announced "I will have to leave the stage for a moment, but you will all remain in a trance while I am gone!" He then repeated the words "The sound of my voice... every word is a command." As he turned to go, he tripped over the microphone cord, landed on his butt, and yelled "SHIT!"

It was the Grand Grad Night Gala where we were greeted with the Secret Service posted at the front doors and a marching band playing upbeat music to welcome everyone. We were then escorted into the Rose Garden where there was a buffet of delicious food being served.

After avoiding the dentist for the best part of a decade, Leslie Mason was in pain and knew he needed urgent treatment.

Two rotten teeth and four roots had to be removed but he could not afford to pay £400 for the work and was also dreading the discomfort he would have to endure.

He mentioned the dilemma to his friend John Ridlington, a qualified hypnotist, who revealed he had been discussing the potential of hypnosis to a dentist he knew.

A quick check confirmed Mr Mason could act as a guinea pig to test the theory and have the treatment free.

He underwent a two-hour procedure without anaesthetic, remaining conscious but in a trance-like state, and reported feeling nothing more than a 'little sting'.

He is believed to be the first person in the country to have major dental surgery using hypnosis instead of anaesthetic.

'It was incredible,' said Mr Mason, 54, a DIY store worker from Colchester, Essex.

'There is no worse pain than that inflicted by dentists but I didn't feel any. The dentist had to dig away at the rotten roots that were right up into my jaw.

'There isn't anything I wouldn't have done under hypnosis now.'

Mr Mason, a father of seven, had previously used hypnosis to quit a 40-a-day smoking habit.

He added: 'Not everyone is as susceptible as me to hypnosis but it's an area that should be exploited further. There are so many benefits.'

Guinea pig: Mr Mason couldn't afford the £400 private cost

Mr Mason's last visit to a dentist before the recent check-up had been in 1998.

During the operation on May 20 he had two upper right molars removed along with their roots, plus two roots from teeth which had been pulled in the 1980s.

Mr Ridlington spent 45 minutes getting him into a relaxed state of mind beforehand by making him visualise his favourite subject - historic battle reenactments - to distract his mind from the pain.

Mr Mason also had to imagine a dial numbered one to ten, one representing no pain and ten pure agony. Whenever he felt a twinge, he mentally turned the dial back to one.

Mr Ridlington, 59, from Dunmow, Essex, said: 'We all have the ability to control pain with our brains.

'They control everything about our bodies and our subconscious is the most powerful part - it controls our breathing and the blood pumping through our veins.

'Hypnosis taps into the subconscious mind. It's all about mind over matter.'

The operation was performed by Dr Bhavin Bhatt, who runs the Smile and Wellbeing dental practice in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

He said: 'The hypnosis was 100 per cent effective. We're now exploring the possibility of offering tooth transplants under hypnosis.'

Studies have shown that using hypnosis instead of anaesthetic can reduce recovery time after surgery.

It also removes the chance of possible side-effects from anaesthesia.

But the technique's long association with stage acts has kept it at the margins of mainstream medicine.

Hypnoanaesthesia, where the patient enters a deep trance state and is told he will feel no pain, has been used to help burn victims manage their agony and ease fears over surgery and childbirth.

The British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis said that even heart operations had been carried out under hypnosis.

In April, hypnotherapist Alex Lenkei had an 83-minute operation without anaesthetic on his arm to treat osteoarthritis.

Afterwards, he revealed he had been aware of his surgeon making a four-inch incision into his wrist and chiselling the bone to remove a tendon.

He added: 'I heard everything he was saying to his assistants and anaesthetist but there was no gossip. It was a shame - I was hoping to hear something juicy.'

Research: Hypnosis Brings Groups Into Focus
Behind-the-scenes hypnotists help get to the bottom of brands.

Volvo equals safety. In focus group after focus group, participants said the same thing. So, Euro RSCG Worldwide, New York, did the obvious thing: It called in a hypnotist.

Members of these unique Volvo focus groups were asked to test-drive the car. Immediately afterwards they were hypnotized and asked their true feelings about the brand. It wasn't pretty: Many revealed that Volvo also equals being middle-aged. That idea "for some people was suffocating," said Michael Fanuele, head of planning at Euro. "Hypnosis helped get past the clichés. We needed the conversation to get to a deeper, more emotional place."

Volvo's not the only one going to that place. Focus group hypnosis is increasingly becoming a "secret weapon" for Fortune 500 companies and ad agencies alike, said Susan Spiegel Solovay, owner of Brandvisioning, New York. A former Grey exec, Solovay has been hosting such groups for a decade. Her clients include about dozen brands including blue-chip beer, soda and telecom companies as well as 20 different agencies.

A session, which consists of no more than eight subjects, takes two hours. The first 25 minutes are dedicated to introducing them to the process and getting them relaxed. "We need to ease the nervousness of what they've seen on television," said Solovay. "Everyone asks if we're going to make them quack like a duck. I wish stage hypnotists would stop doing that."

Once they are in an "alpha" state of relaxation, the hypnotist will ask them individually about topics like the first time they experienced a product. "We want to find out the imprint of the brand," said Hal Goldberg, owner of Qualitative & Quantitative Research, Laguna Hills, Calif. Goldberg, who trained Solovay, is a former Leo Burnett exec who has been conducting these groups for 35 years. "People can describe the cookies their mother made them when they were 5 in great detail. This drives adult behavior."

Avrett, Free & Ginsberg, New York, has been using focus group hypnosis for clients like Dewar's and Domaine Chandon for more than a decade. "I reach for this, depending on the client, whenever I can," said president Stuart Grau.

He says it's particularly useful when consumers don't have negative feelings about a product, but just aren't predisposed to buying it. Four sessions cost about the same as a typical round of focus groups ($50,000-75,000).

It's not for every client though, said Grau: "Some aren't comfortable with it. To some extent there could be some ethical concerns associated it." Goldberg and Solovay both stressed that being under the power of suggestion can't prompt consumers to say or do anything against their will. "It's not like we're asking people to take off their clothes and crumble Ritz crackers on their bosoms," said Fanuele, whose clients include the cracker brand. "It's about getting emotional content that is so much more vivid and colorful."

Others question the utility of focus group hypnosis. "It's worse than nonsense. It's a part of the continuing trend of American businesses moving away from actual expertise," said Douglas Rushkoff, author of Get Back in the Box: Innovation from the Inside Out (Harper-Collins). "They are wasting their marketing dollars."

Marc Babej, partner with the consultancy Reason, New York, concurs: "I have a particular venom for this area. These subconscious attitudes have little to do with purchase decisions. Most consumers navigate the marketplace based on the tangible benefits of the product."

Though no one tracks the overall industry, Goldberg expects to have his best year ever and new entrants are hitting the scene. Hypnotherapist Keith O'Neill, based in Newport Beach, Calif., jumped in three years ago. "Somebody at an ad agency asked me to do it," he said. "It's great because it removes the high school mentality of focus groups. Usually cliques develop: There is the bully, the shy people and those that just want to fit in with the group."

How deeply ingrained taglines and ad jingles are into people's minds was one surprise for O'Neill when he began working the field. "You ask them what the first thing they remember is and they say, 'Plop plop fiz fizz' or 'Where's the beef?'" Solovay uses Coca-Cola as a warm-up exercise because "everyone has Coke memories." Fanuele understands the skepticism. "A year ago I thought it was a silly little gimmick, but now I've been converted."

Stone trance makes robots dance

Hollywood hypnotist Kevin Stone literally had people in a trance during his debut show at the Centre of Excellence on Friday.
Those who were not rolling around on the ground, were laughing uncontrollably, sobbing like babies and even vibrating like washing machines while hypnotised.
At the start of the show, brought to T&T by the Trinidad Broadcasting Company network, Stone called 20 eager volunteers to occupying seats on stage.
Ordering them to close their eyes, while placing their hands flat on their laps and feet flat on the ground, he spoke soft words as he urged them to relax.
“And as you relax, imagine that attached to one of your hands is a bouquet of 500 balloons, and as I attach the balloons to your hands, picture your hand lifting slowly off your lap,” he said to them.
As if they were robots, the volunteers, whose bodies seemed limp from the hypnotism, slowly lifted one arm in the air.
Stone snapped his fingers to get them out of the daze and ordered them to sleep. All hands dropped and the volunteers slumped on their chairs as they fell into a deep sleep.
A few even slid off their chairs and on to the ground.
In another instance, Stone had one volunteer say her ABCs like a kindergarten student, in a sing-song-voice.
He then made her close her eyes and told her at the snap of his finger she would forget the alphabet.
“The only thing you would remember is e-i-e-i-o,” he said.
The teen did, indeed, forget her alphabet and at the snap of Stone’s fingers she rattled off: “Old MacDonald had a farm, e-i-e-i-o.”
Even as the crowd rolled around in laughter, the teen argued with Stone she was saying the alphabet correctly.
At the end of the show, when told about their bizarre behaviour on stage, some of the volunteers were in disbelief.
n Pat Anderson, the most senior volunteer, said she was shocked when her niece told her about her antics on stage.
“She pushed me to go up on stage because I am a shy person. I don’t dance in front of people like that, laugh out like that, or even behave crazy like that, and when they told all those things I did on stage I could not believe it. I am embarrassed...”
n Solange Heywood, 26, described the hypnosis as a relaxing, out-of-body experience.
“Every time he spoke I got the urge to do exactly what he said. I can’t explain it, but I was just drawn to doing exactly what he said. And even when I tried to force myself to stop, I just could not, anyway,” she said.
Friday’s show was Stone’s first performance in Trinidad and his first tour in seven years.
“This is my first-ever show since the September 11 bombing in the US, and as soon as I got off the plane here I got a tremendous energy of happy, energetic people.
“I just love this country,” he said.
Born in California, Stone is described as a master hypnotist and is a board-certified hypnotist.
He owns and operates his world-famous hypnotherapy clinic in Los Angeles and has helped improve the lifestyles of stars like Bruce Willis, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Tyra Banks.

WILL + GRACE star DEBRA MESSING called on the hypnotist who helped her quit smoking when faced with having to play an "aquatic showgirl" - because she's terrified of being underwater.
The actress plays a Las Vegas, Nevada mermaid in DREW BARRYMORE's new film LUCKY YOU and was terrified when she found out there was no stunt double for the underwater scenes.
So she headed back to the hypnotist who cured her of her smoking habit five years ago, and asked him to give her a quick fix, so she could cope with 16 hours of aquatic work without freaking out.

Hollywood Hypnotist Kevin Stone, is he gay, straight or taken? Wait a minute, you may think I've lost my mind, but I haven't... Kevin was featured on an episode of the hit reality TV show on the Lifetime network titled "Gay, Straight or Taken?" It's a great show where one girl is hooked up with 3 guys and she has to figure out which one is gay, which one is taken with a girlfriend and which one is straight and available. Kevin told me that he had been contacted by the shows producers, after a long and extensive search around the country, and asked to join the series as the "resident" hypnotist on the show. They wanted the one and only Celebrity Hypnotist Kevin Stone, they wanted the best in the field of hypnosis and they certainly made an excellent decision when they sought out Kevin!!!
Anyway, Kevin was AWESOME as usual and I love the fact that the segment which featured Kevin was long enough to actually show a good portion of the hypnotic induction so that it was obvious that what was happening was real and not "staged" for TV. You know how there is always some skeptics out there... until, of course, they experience what Kevin does and then they are skeptics no more.

I was shocked to hear about the sudden and untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith. I spoke with Kevin as i frequently do and he was saddened by the news too. He asked me to post the following message on his fan club blog but i want you to know that it came directly from Kevin Stone.

I am sure that everyone is aware by now with the non stop media coverage of the sudden death of Anna Nicole Smith. I would like to send my condolences to her friends and family. She was a unique person, a former client, and friend of mine. I will remember her smile always.

I just finished watching the Tyra Banks Show and after sitting through what seemed like never ending segments it was finally Kevins turn and he was awesome as usual! I really liked how Kevin gave so much information about the power of the mind in such a compact amount of time. I'm sure he wishes he had more time, because he just scraped the tip of the iceberg with all that is possible with hypnosis and the power of the mind.

Kevin started this week scheduled to go to the IAFE convention in Las Vegas, but h3 was called away to appear on the Tyra Banks Show, After taping his episode yesterday Kevin jetted off to Las Vegas to make an appearance at the IAFE convention and he just flew back tonight because tomorrow he has an early call because he tapes an appearance on an upcoming reality show, which will tape at the Queen Mary in Long Beach California, Check back here often for air date information for all of Kevin Stone's upcoming appearances...

If you happened to be watching Million Doller Listings on Bravo and you thought that you saw Hollywood Hypnotist Kevin Stone, you were right! Kevin is a board certified Hypnotherapist in California and he has a clinic in Beverly Hills, Ca. where he helps hundreds of people a month achieve their goals. It was great to see the "other side" of hypnosis, the clinical side, which is very different then stage hypnosis, and I urge you to contact Kevin for a personal session when you are ready to achieve all the things you keep putting off until the time is right, NOW is the time, JUST DO IT!!!

Kevin was recently at the Gold County Fair where he helped a record setting amount of people quit smoking!! As usual he was a smash success with the crowds loving his wit and charm. I heard things after the show like "my stomache hurts from laughing so hard!" and I was constantly asked when the next show was going to be with looks of disappointment when I had to break the bad news that the next show wasn't until the next day. I was also aware of how many people came to every show and they laughed as hard at the 6th show as they did at the first.
